I ordered two of the IX4s and they arrived in 6 days! I wanted something powerful and zippy but still fun and safe for the kids, this is exactly that! Assembly took just a minute or two out of the box and it was ready to rock. I downloaded the app first but was always able to access the 28mph speed. Some reviews said you had to unlock the 28mph ability but mine worked immediately.Pros- Fast, Agile, Sturdy, Turns heads, and good range. As an adult (160lbs) I got 20 miles on turbo mode before it was down to one bar and maxing out at about 24mph. The 70lbs 8-year old still had 2 bars of battery and plenty of zip after the same 20 miles. The off-road capabilities are pretty nice but not perfect. You can easily do 20mph thru dirt. It is nice to have the option to go off-road, especially on busy paths, but this is not its ideal purpose. Night riding is also pretty decent, however youll want a helmet light for increased visibility on your peripherals. Hill climbing is satisfactory and will typically go 18-19mph up hills. The cockpit feels of very high quality. The brake levers have a rubber grip on them that feels great. The throttle is very smooth with a ton of action.Horn is loud, lights are great. The display screen is bright and responsive. This scooter feels nimble, fast, trustworthy, and predictable.Neutral- The shock absorbers are where the money is saved. They do very little absorption and often rattle on any type of bump. The front fork specifically seems fairly useless, but the rear shocks seem to be slightly smoother. However even after 20 miles it was never uncomfortable or a nuisance, and its better than no suspension at all. I also turned off the cruise control. It sets itself automatically if you hold the throttle in the same spot for a few seconds, and this felt unsafe and annoying. If there was a separate way to turn cruise control on, I mightve used it a few times.Cons- The headlights and taillight are housed in cheap plastic and are bound to break one of these days. I personally dont like the grips and will be changing those. Ive also only had these scooters for 1 week and cant speak to their longevity.
Out of the box, fit and finish is on par with the price class. You will want to let the tires and plastics off gas for 48-72 hours before storing inside, Id give the quality a 8.5/10. Not blow your socks off for the price, but it feels like a $500 scooter as it should. This is the replacement for a KQi2 from NIU. My previous was limited to 17 mph. The Ix4 will get me to 28 up any grade 15% or less at 62 ~140lbs until around 30% battery then 25 is more realistic. Folding handles are nice but also add a very slight tolerance. I have averaged 15-20 miles of range on rides I get 600 of elevation gain and end the ride around 15-25% Its weight does not seem to affect ride feel compared to scooters half the weight. I personally think the stem needs to be more stiff to left and right inputs, you can induce speed wobbles easy one handed if youre tall but normal riding is on par with other brands. Ive put 3 partial battery cycles and gone close to 60 miles over bike trails, rough pavement, short dirt/gravel paths. Suspension seems to help the most with the smaller bumps, big ones still wake you up just as much as on other scooters, but at a higher speed. I was a no helmet user on the KQi2, I have invested in a helmet for this one, standard mode at 21 is a happy medium and turbo is good for getting through sketchy sections or road with traffic or in the open. Torque is good but not as punchy towards the bottom of the pack. 6-8 hour charge, last 15% really drags on but this would be a great commuter for a sub 15 mile commute, a full shift would bring you back to 100% App is a bit archaic looking compared to to other brands but has more technical data. Lights are bright enough to be useful at dusk and midnight, blinkers and underfloor are bright but not the colors Id choose personally. Package came with a spare inner tube for the tire and small toolset as well. The one feature the NIU app has over iscooter is a remaining charge time indicator. Id buy it again, havent seen anything that would make me drop at the opportunity to trade into a new one from another brand in the same price class.
